The new Trace space.

TRACE moves into its new loft in the heart of Mumbai

We’re proud to announce that the new Trace office is open for business. This expansive space brings the feel of a New York-based VFX company to Mumbai. We could go on…and we will.

Our new office is big – 4,200 square feet to be exact. That’s four times the size of our old space. Between our two shifts, we can comfortably hold over 200 employees. And with 14-foot ceilings, we no longer have to warn clients to duck when they enter our conference room.

Jon Mason, Managing Director at Trace, captured the excitement. “This new space allows us to continue our growth and take on a wider variety of projects, including a large emphasis on 3D. We’re thrilled with how it turned out and happy to call it home.”

TRACE moves into its new loft in the heart of Mumbai

For this edition of Meet the Tracers, we’d like to talk about a guy who keeps everything at Trace running smoothly: Prasad Dorkade.

While growing up in Ratnagiri, Prasad loved to learn about India’s rich history. Unlike some of his friends, he looked forward to history class. But school wasn’t his only interest. In his free time, he loved playing cricket and became known for his table tennis skills.

Prasad joined the Trace team as a runner in July of 2011. He impressed us from the get go. Before we knew it, he was taking on more responsibilities and doing a great job at keeping the whole office in order.

“With his respect for others and ability to get things done at any cost, Prasad exemplifies Trace’s culture of creativity,” said Varun Parange, Head of Production at Trace. “He over delivers on every task and has a very bright future.”

Lastly, a bit of bad news for all the single ladies out there: Prasad recently got married.

We’ll be back soon to honor another Trace employee!

TRACE moves into its new loft in the heart of Mumbai

This Tracer wasn’t planning on a career in visual effects. Not even close. But we’re so glad things worked out like they did. Allow us to introduce you to Asha Parakkal.

Asha was born and raised in Kerala, a state in the south-west region of India. After years of school and hundreds of episodes of Tom and Jerry (which she admits she never missed), Asha enrolled in a post-graduate program for English Literature. Upon graduating, the next logical step was to become a lecturer. But things didn’t feel right. Asha wanted to do something she truly loved – a job where she could make the most of her creativity. That’s when she came knocking at our door.

For the past year, Asha has worked as a roto artist at Trace. Her passion for VFX and ability to learn quickly have made her a valuable asset on so many of our projects. She especially loves how the work she creates entertains people around the world. ”Asha has really impressed us with her creative ability. We’re really looking forward to seeing her grow,” said Varun Parange, Head of Production at Trace.

It’s starting to sound like working at Trace has changed the way Asha sees things. She told us that Avatar’s animation and visual effects make it the most amazing movie of the last 10 years. But don’t worry, Tom and Jerry will always have a special place in her heart.

Stay tuned to see which Tracer is featured next!

Trace is on the Move.

TRACE moves into its new loft in the heart of Mumbai

In just a few weeks, we’ll relocate to a new office down the block. Sure, it’s a little raw now and looks like a scene out of Fight Club. But believe it or not, it’s in better shape than our first office when we signed the lease.

For starters, it’ll be four times as large as our current office. In addition to expanding our 2D staff, we’re also introducing a full-service 3D department, where modeling and rigging will complement existing matchmove and tracking services. ”3D is a really exciting area for us. These services have grown pretty organically with our clients, so we’re happy to finally have the space to build a full department,” says Matthew Herman, Executive Producer at Trace.

In a related piece of news, we’re proud to welcome the newest member of the Trace family (see below). He’s a dog who routinely sleeps in a pile of dirt outside our new space. We call him Dozer, and we like his style.

We’ll definitely miss the place where it all began, but bigger and better things await (that includes you, Dozer). Stay tuned for more news as our space takes shape.
