FAQ

THE WORK

  • How many people do you employ?

    Over 450!

  • Where is the work done?

All creative work is done out of our office in Mumbai. We have producers in New York, London and Los Angeles to oversee the successful execution of your projects.

  • Can you turn work around overnight?

It depends on the demands of each task, but we routinely do turn work around in under 24 hours.

  • Do you work weekends?

We have half our normal staffing on Saturday and are closed on Sunday. Shots turned over to us on Friday can often be turned around for Monday morning.

  • How do you quote the work?

We quote on a fixed bid basis after reviewing the footage and references outlining the scope of work. We can also provide rough estimates from an offline or detailed description. However, final quotes are always subject to review of locked footage and references.

  • Can you price things on per frame basis?

We try to avoid it when possible, but at the early stages of estimation we can ballpark costs on a per frame basis.

  • Who should I contact for a quote?

If you email production@tracevfx.com, one of our producers will get back to you right away. Since we have producers in London, NY, LA, and Mumbai, someone is always up!

  • What are your payment terms?

For the typical project, we require payment within 30 days from invoicing. For larger projects, we may ask for a portion of the payment upfront or midway through the project.

  • Does work with Trace qualify for the New York State & City tax credits?

Sometimes! Trace is an LLC incorporated in New York City, where we employ producers who handle the front end of your project. So a portion of the work you do with us is done in NYC and can qualify for the tax credit. Please consult your accountant for more specifics.

THE PROCESS

  • What is TaskBox?

TaskBox is Trace's very own project management tool. You can look at the status of every shot/task you're working on with us. It feeds right out of our production system, so the information is always up-to-date. If you'd like, you can even download the completed work!

  • How should we send you footage?

We can pull down footage from your FTP or we can set you up with an Aspera / FTP for you to upload to us – whatever is easier.

  • What file formats do you accept?

Any uncompressed image sequence is ideal: dpx, tif, sgi, etc. If we're not keying, jpg sequences can also work.

  • Is our content secure with Trace?

Of course! Trace has passed multiple industry security audits and delivers content back to you using encrypted Aspera links. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Our security policy is transparent.

  • How is the work QC'd?

We have two rounds of QC for all work before delivery: first by a team leader and second by a lead supervisor. Over 99% of all shots are approved by the client on the first version.

  • How do you deliver the completed work?

Trace delivers all your work back to you through its own Aspera server. Downloads are fast and secure. If you would like us to deliver to your server we can do that as well – just let us know!
