Mumbai office, before and after.

April 29, 2011

We were standing in an office that’s interior was designed to look exactly like a DC-10 airplane when we realized that we had our work cut out for us. How we forgot to take a picture is an oversight that we just have to learn to live with. It gets better with time.

Good office space in Mumbai is hard to find and rents are notoriously high, often rivaling those in Manhattan. But with these challenges come a lot of opportunity to do something different. Honestly, where else can you find an office that looks like a commercial jetliner?

We saw bathrooms filled with pigeons, offices piled floor to ceiling with buttons and finally, the perfect office space. The space we found was an old carpenters workshop that was rough around the edges, to say the least, but it had one feature that we just couldn’t resist, 18-foot ceilings. New Yorkers fall for that trick every time. The space required a serious build out, but we knew we could turn it into a really kick ass office. Six weeks later, and with a newfound appreciation for carpenters who don’t sleep on the job, we moved into an office that we’re proud to call home. It’s amazing what a ping pong table and five drum lights can do for a place.
